Sports Cloak
Posted by Mike C on 16/11/2015

I wanted something to use to change under after OCR races. Apart from a few, most events do not have changing areas or showers. Before buying I looked at several options. I wanted a fleece inner with shower proof outer. This narrowed the options to Dry Robe short sleeve advance (full zip); Robie Pro Max (pullover type robe) and the Coucon outdoors robe (half zipped robe). The Charlie McLeod Sports Cloak offered more features with its own robust draw string bag at a lower price. The bag itself is a changing mat with two sides. One has a more robust side to face the ground, the other you stand on. It has the deep pile fleece inner and shower proof outer. Hood - The hood has an elastic draw cord. I am not sure if the other three do. Zips - all are YKK zips. The main double chunky zip is full length with a long fabric loop on each. Double zips are helpful when changing. When fully dressed, you can access trouser pockets. Pockets : Outside - Two hand warmer pockets - zipped chest pocket with chunky zip and long fabric loop. It can fit most smart phones. - lower Velcro pocket Inside - one chest pocket. Will fit most smart phones - One lower zipped pocket. I think this is the equivalent to a goggle pocket as with the Dry robe. Other features: Around the lower part of the cloak (from top of thighs) has a mess inner. The main zip has an inner storm flap running the length of the zip. There is a zip garage to prevent scratching your chin. There is a waist draw cord chin is helpful to pull the cloak in making like a coat. The sleeves have metal poppers helping to reduce the size of the arms Sizing. I am 5'8" and went for a small/medium. It reached my knees exactly. Go for a larger size of you a taller. Sports Cloak experience Ordered via Charlie McLeod website. Received within 4 days with free postage and packing. I've used after the Wild Vision Run and Winter Wolf Run. Having endured a good mickey taking from my friend ("when you drive home, make sure you don't break down wearing that"), I got changed without having to rush and was able to stay dry and warm. I used it after both races as a coat and it was perfect. I was dry when it rained (it rained lots at the Winter Wolf Run and the wind blew umbrellas inside out) and immensely warm. I noticed others had Dry robes. With the Sports Cloak retailing at £69.95 and the equivalent Dry robe advance short sleeve retailing at £109.99, I saved myself £40 on an item with more features. I have no hesitation in recommending this. If you need to change outdoors and/ or will be outdoors in the elements, it will keep you warm from the wind and the rain.
